The Season to be Jolly....?

Watching the news and reading the papers, it's hard to find even a glimpse of hope and cheer right now.  It almost makes one nostalgic for the pandemic, when food and fuel were cheap, inflation wasn't a thing and politicians provided daily entertainment of breathtaking buffoonery.

In the tiny world of Hemingway we've been battling a number of issues which seem to be coming to head at Christmas.  The chief one is "logistics" - once known as shipping.  We're facing delays at both ends - in getting finished kits away and getting raw materials to arrive.

Short of a magic-wand, we must now rely on your patience.  Please order with confidence but expect a longer delivery time than normal.  If you haven't yet ordered for the Big Day, the odds are now heavily against.

We hope you'll manage to get a few precious workshop hours over the break and look forward to supporting you in the New Year.

 The Gack Free-Vice

This Free-Vice will lock your job directly to the milling table, allowing heavy cuts to be taken across the entire surface.

We've all faced those puzzles where the milling vice is not big enough and hold-down clamps get in the way. Where you may have needed to clamp then re-clamp work in the past, you can now enjoy that single facing cut!

The Vice suits T-slot scentres from 1.25"-3.5" (32-90mm) and will earn its keep on all common milling machines.

The Quorn Mk3 T&C Grinder

We'd guess that the Quorn Universal Tool & Cutter Grinder is known by just about everyone who owns a small workshop.  If you haven't built one - "odds on" you've thought about it?

Launched by Prof. Dennis Chaddock and Model Engineering Services in 1974, the Quorn is a triumph of engineering design and a hugely desirable asset.

Now... what if we were to tell you that:

• Following an agreement with Ivan Law at MES, Hemingway are proud to have become the sole authorised supplier of the Quorn.
• The new Quorn Mk3 design has been released, offering customers a much quicker build and easier, more accurate set-ups.
FULL material kits are now available. Not just castings but everything required to complete your Quorn Mk3.

Welcome to our All-New Website!

If all of those long hours at the keyboard have worked - you will now be sat in front of our brand new website?  Our command of "html" is not strong so we're crossing our finger and toes.

In the end, the chaps who ran the servers for our old site could no longer support its turn-of-the-century code.  This new cloud-based site is going to take some getting used to, for us at least.  It's a bit like when the road atlas and carburettor gave way to satnav and fuel injection. Whilst the NEW its infinitely better, you instinctively knew where you were with the OLD.

Don't be frightened - this site contains all of the information from before together with many new images and video links - can't be bad?  We also have high hopes that the eCommerce side of it will address some issues that have made ordering cumbersome in the past.

We hope you find the new site to be intuitive. There are a few new features that look genuinely useful:

  • New Account - Why not create an Account with Hemingway Kits?  This will ask you for the usual information (email, address and a password).  In return for your indulgence, you'll never have to fill these in again, you'll be able to keep tabs on your orders and you can create a "Wish List" of items that interest you.  If you also tick the "right" box, you'll receive a very occasional email/newsletter from Hemingway Kits - typically when new products are launched.
  • Wish List - Now here's an interesting thing and just in time for Christmas!  As you add an item to your list, you'll be asked for exact details (MT2 vs R8, Full kit vs Castings only etc..).  You can then click to Distribute this list by email to anyone and everyone who wishes you joy, safe in the knowledge that the less technically inclined won't be bamboozaled by meaningless drop-down lists.
  • Export Orders: Great news for well-over half of our customers:
    • Currencies - You can now choose your favourite (or favorite...) currency from the list at the top-left.
    • Delivery Cost & Weight: By choosing your country from the list at the bottom of the Shopping Basket, you'll get a good idea of your delivery costs.  If you add (smiley) or subtract (frown) items, you'll be able to minimise your delivery cost per kg.
